The London theatre scene is absolutely thriving at the moment with an abundance of shows of all genres. My wishlist is building up and I'll no doubt be putting tickets for a couple of shows on my Christmas list. It can be such a faff to search for tickets to each show individually which is why I prefer to visit a box office website such as theatretickets.uk where you can find tickets for all the big West End productions and compare seats and prices all in one place. Today I'm going to share with you the shows that I'm dying to see and that I'll be snapping up tickets for very soon.
Top of my list is the new Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical School of Rock, based on the film of the same name. Being honest, when I first heard they were making the film into a musical I was skeptical but it's currently a big hit on Broadway and has had such brilliant reviews that now I can't wait to see it. The songs are up-beat and catchy and I adore the story so I'm hoping it lives up to my expectations.
Another hit heading to London straight from Broadway is Tony winning musical An American in Paris. The show is a story of romance and friendship set in the late 1940s but from what I've heard, the real stars of the show are the stunning choreography, set and costume design. In addition, the two Broadway leads (Leanne Cope and Robert Fairchild) are coming over with the show so London audiences are truly in for a treat. The production doesn't open until April 2017 but I'm already very excited.
I enjoy plays just as much as musicals and there are a couple on my radar at the moment. Dead Funny is a play that I'd not heard of before but it seems to have taken audiences by storm and has had some fantastic reviews. It stars one of my favourite comedy actresses, Katherine Parkinson, and I just think it would make a nice change to the kind of shows I normally gravitate towards. Similarly I'm really interested to find out more about Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? which arrives in the West End in February. It stars the incredible Imelda Staunton (I saw her in Gypsy last year and she blew me away) which would be enough to convince me to see it, but on top of that the plot sounds dramatic and gripping and I really hope I manage to get hold of a ticket.
Honestly, I could go on: Dreamgirls, Don Juan in Soho, Half a Sixpence and Rent are all on my to-see list. I feel like the West End is in great shape at the moment and there is so much choice that you'll no doubt find something you want to see.
