2017 Best Bits

Ok, I know the year isn't over yet but it's been a while since I've posted anything so I decided it was acceptable to do annual round up! 2017 has been another fantastic year of theatre for me so narrowing everything down has been quite difficult. I've picked out some of my favourite shows and theatre memories to share with you, while giving you a peak at what's to come in 2018. Enjoy!

Legally Blonde | UK Tour | New Theatre

Legally Blonde has long been one of my favourite films: it's a story about being true to yourself and fighting for what you believe in. It's inspiring whilst still being a lot of fun and I think it's fair to say that the main character, Elle Woods, influenced my love of blonde hair and the colour pink! I saw an excellent amateur production of the show a few years ago (by Wolverhampton Musical Comedy Company at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre) so I was obviously thrilled to find out that the official tour would be stopping off in Cardiff. I grabbed my gal pals, donned my sassiest pink outfit and headed to the New Theatre for what really was a spectacular performance.

The Cherry Orchard | Sherman Theatre

Rehearsal Image
Playwright Gary Owen has returned to the Sherman Theatre with a re-imagining of Chekhov's classic play, The Cherry Orchard (now set in Pembrokeshire in 1982). Before my visit, I knew of the original piece but was not particularly familiar with it so, to me, it was like a completely new play. Overall I found it to be a highly thought-provoking production about class, family and relationships that had a lot of heart at it's core.

Apologia | Trafalgar Studios

It feels like a very long time since I've written a review on this blog (a full one at least) and while I have been seeing some shows, Apologia at Trafalgar Studios is the first one this month that I really feel like writing about. First of all, I have to say a word about Trafalgar Studios as a space: I've now seen three very different plays here, all of which I've enjoyed and all of which have used the space in completely different ways. I know for certain that I'll see more productions here and that I'll continue to be impressed. Now, onto Apologia!

#EdFringe 2017 Round Up | Week 4

So the Edinburgh fringe has come to an end for yet another year. While I am completely exhausted, it's been a brilliant (almost) six weeks here in Edinburgh and I've seen some truly wonderful shows. The last week was fairly busy (despite the tiredness suddenly catching up with me!) and I managed to see some shows that I've had on my list since the beginning of August.
